Who we are

Jeremy and Kirsten Cohen are principals of New North Consulting (NNC), a small, Alaskan, family-owned and operated business. NNC offers environmental regulatory compliance support to public and private sector clients in Alaska, including support at clients’ lower 48 facilities. Environmental compliance is rarely a one-size-fits-all proposition; rather, an effective compliance program typically requires the assimilation of site- and operation-specific details. Our experienced team has created numerous compliance programs for clients throughout the State of Alaska. We pay close attention to detail while working with clients to prepare management plans, develop and provide site-specific trainings, create inspection programs (in addition to conducting inspections, as desired), create permit-required maps, figures and outreach materials, support permitting effects and can act as liaisons between client and regulator.

NNC has worked in diverse locations in Alaska from the Dalton Highway, south through the interior, coastal communities in the southeast, and throughout the Aleutian Chain. We can handle ourselves at 40 below and are familiar with Aleutian squalls. We are dedicated to providing excellent work at a fair price in an efficient manner, regardless of the occasional adversity working in remote Alaska offers. In addition to our major clients, we also work with small, local businesses, supporting them with design, marketing and fabrication/printing needs.

When not working in the field, Kirsten and Jeremy divide their time between their Anchorage home and McCarthy cabin, which both serve as home-offices. Outside of work, they are raising two boys, recreating on skis, bikes and feet, expanding culinary interests, playing music, and always look forward to spending time with friends and family.

Jeremy’s certifications include:

  • Certified Professional in Industrial Stormwater Management (CPISM) #0008

  • Certified Professional in Municipal Stormwater Management (CPMSM) #0172

  • Certified by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) to conduct sanitary surveys of Public Water Systems (PWSs).
